Charlotte Perriand
Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) was a French architect and designer whose work played a major role in shaping modernist furniture and interior design in the 20th century. After gaining recognition with her early steel and aluminum furniture, she joined the studio of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in 1927, where she contributed to some of the most iconic modernist designs, including the famous LC4 Chaise Longue. Perriand believed that design should improve everyday life and focused on functional, human-centered environments that balanced industrial materials with natural elements such as wood and bamboo. Throughout her long career she worked on furniture, architecture, and large-scale interior projects, notably the alpine resort of Les Arcs, developing a style that combined modernist clarity with warmth and practicality. Today she is recognized as one of the most influential figures of modern design.
