About this Product

The Thinking Man’s Chair is an iconic armchair designed by British designer Jasper Morrison for Cappellini in 1988 and remains in production as a modern classic. It celebrates structural clarity and comfort by exposing its tubular metal frame and flat metal slats for the seat and back, avoiding hidden surfaces and instead turning its construction into the aesthetic. The armrests extend into integrated drink/rest trays, encouraging long periods of relaxation and contemplation, and the chair is typically finished in lacquered metal colours such as pure white, violet blue or oxide red, with some editions featuring handwritten dimension details that highlight its curves. Originally prototyped in the mid-1980s and debuted in production at the Milan Fair in 1988, it marked one of Morrison’s first major collaborations with Cappellini and helped define his reputation for quiet, functional design.
