Vico Magistretti
Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was an influential Italian architect and industrial designer whose work helped shape the language of modern Italian design in the postwar period. Known for his refined simplicity and deep understanding of materials, Magistretti created furniture and lighting that balanced functionality with quiet elegance. Working with renowned manufacturers such as Cassina, Artemide, and Kartell, he designed iconic pieces including the Eclisse lamp (1965) and the Maralunga sofa (1973). His approach avoided unnecessary ornament, focusing instead on clear forms, comfort, and intelligent construction. Through decades of work, Magistretti developed a timeless design vocabulary that continues to influence contemporary design and remains widely celebrated in both architecture and product design.
