Muller Van Severen
Muller Van Severen is a Belgian design duo founded by Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, whose work has gained international recognition for its vibrant colors, refined lines, and sculptural approach to furniture. Emerging in the early 2010s, their practice sits at the intersection of design and art, creating objects that function as both practical furniture and spatial compositions. Their pieces often appear as simple linear structures drawn in space, combining steel frames with leather, polyethylene, or lacquered surfaces in bold, carefully balanced color palettes. Rather than separating form and function, Muller Van Severen approach furniture as an integrated whole where structure, color, and use coexist with a sense of visual lightness. Their work frequently explores multifunctionality and hybrid typologies, merging elements such as shelving, seating, lighting, and tables into unified objects. Through collaborations with companies such as Valerie Objects, HAY, and Kvadrat, they have developed collections that blur the boundaries between domestic furniture and gallery pieces. Characterized by geometric clarity, playful color relationships, and an almost architectural sense of composition, Muller Van Severen’s work brings a distinctive contemporary voice to the landscape of collectible and industrial design.
