The Dalilips sofa, created in 1972 by surrealist artist Salvador Dalí in collaboration with architect and designer Oscar Tusquets Blanca and produced by BD Barcelona Design, is one of the most iconic and provocative pieces of Spanish design. Inspired by Dalí's famous Mae West Room installation and the actress's unmistakable lips, the sofa transforms surrealist imagery into a functional object, blurring the boundary between art and furniture. Originally conceived for the Salvador Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the design was too complex for industrial production at the time and only entered serial production in 2004 thanks to advances in rotational moulding technology.
