Le Corbusier
Le Corbusier was a pioneering Swiss-French architect, designer, and urban planner whose work shaped the foundations of modern architecture and design in the 20th century. Born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret in 1887, he became one of the leading figures of the modernist movement, advocating for functional, rational architecture adapted to the needs of modern life. His philosophy, summarized in the idea of the house as a “machine for living in,” led to revolutionary projects such as the Villa Savoye, the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, and the urban plan for Chandigarh in India. Beyond architecture, Le Corbusier also designed influential furniture in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, including the iconic LC series. His work combined geometric purity, new materials like reinforced concrete, and a visionary approach to urbanism, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to influence architecture, design, and modern living today.
