Ingo Maurer (1932-2019) was a German designer and entrepreneur internationally recognised for his innovative and poetic approach to lighting design. Born on the island of Reichenau in southern Germany, he studied graphic design in Munich before working as a freelance designer in Germany and the United States. In 1966, he founded his own company in Munich, through which he developed a distinctive body of work that would redefine the role of light in contemporary interiors. Often referred to as the "poet of light", Maurer viewed lighting not simply as a functional necessity but as a medium for storytelling, emotion and experimentation. His creations combined technical ingenuity with humour, surprise and a strong artistic sensibility, frequently blurring the boundaries between industrial design and sculpture. Throughout his career, he explored unconventional materials such as paper, feathers, porcelain, mirrors and everyday objects, transforming them into imaginative luminous compositions. Among his most celebrated designs are the *Bulb* lamp from 1966, inspired by the form of the incandescent light bulb itself, and the *Lucellino* lamp, whose delicate winged bulb became an icon of late twentieth-century design.
