Eero Aarnio

Eero Aarnio (born 1932) is a Finnish industrial designer renowned for his pioneering use of plastics and fiberglass in furniture design during the 1960s. After studying at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, he founded his own design office in 1962 and quickly became one of the most distinctive voices of the Space Age design movement. Aarnio gained international recognition with futuristic pieces such as the Ball Chair (1963), the Bubble Chair (1968), and the Pastil Chair (1968), which combined sculptural forms with new industrial materials and a playful approach to function. His work captured the optimism and experimental spirit of the era, transforming furniture into bold, almost architectural objects. Today, Aarnio is considered one of the most influential figures in modern Scandinavian design, and many of his creations remain icons of Space Age aesthetics and innovative industrial design.
