Explorer Cabinet

Jaime Hayon

The Explorer Cabinet, designed by Jaime Hayon for BD Barcelona Design, is a series of cabinets created as an extension of the Explorer collection of tables and side tables. The collection is inspired by children and their love for jelly-beans: rounded sweets which children eat in the United States. These cabinets are typical of Jaime's design: playing with colours and shapes to craft products which are not only functional but also sculptural. By combining different techniques - painting some parts with a gloss finish, some others in matte and adding reflective glass top surfaces plus different combinations of colours - gives even more richness and playfulness to the collection. The Explorer Cabinet is suitable for both private and commercial environments.

Jaime Hayon

Jaime Hayon is a Spanish artist and designer. As a teenager, he submerged himself in skateboard culture and graffiti art, the foundation of the detailed, bold-yet-whimsical imagery so imminent in his work today. After studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris he joined Fabrica in 1997, the Benetton-funded design and communication academy, working closely with the legendary image-maker and agitator Oliviero Toscani. In a short time he was promoted from student to head of their Design Department. Eight years later, Jaime broke out on his own, first with his collections of designer toys, ceramics and furniture, later followed by interior design and installations.
